Get to Know SPAC's Youth Minister - Wesley Cunningham
We are thrilled to introduce you to our new Youth Minister, Wesley Cunningham!
Tell us a bit about yourself and your background.
I graduated from MTSU in 2020 with a bachelors in industrial psychology and leadership theories. I grew up with 2 brothers and a half sister. I like sports, especially playing basketball, volleyball, and golf. I like being outside being active. Reading and spending time with friends and family are two other joys of mine.
Tell us about your history at SPAC and your faith journey.
I might be one of the longest standing members of St. Patrick’s. I’ve gone there since I was about 5 or 6 and actually gave my life to Christ when I was 22 years old in 2018. It was very much a Saul to Paul conversion. Thankfully my mom made sure to talk about God more than I wanted to hear about him growing up and took us to church.
What did the call to youth ministry look like for you?
The call to youth ministry happened quickly but was something the Lord was working for a while. When asking the Lord what he wants me to do with my life, career wise, the word ministry has popped to mind for the past 3 years. Father Chris and Father Wesley had been praying for a youth pastor for quite some time. While distributing communion one Sunday, Fr. Chris said he got the distinct impression that he should talk to me about that need.
What's your favorite Book of the Bible/verse?
At the moment, Acts is my favorite book and 2 of my favorite verses are 1st Corinthians 10:13 and Psalm 126:5-6.
What is your hope and prayer for S.P.Y.?
I hope to help the youth grow in their love and knowledge of Christ and a community that helps each other walk with the Lord.
Is there anything on the horizon for SPY you can tell us about?
An upcoming event on the horizon is the youth retreat on September 1-3. I plan on having two Wednesdays a month where we are entirely on our own (playing a game, eating together, and learning/praying) and two Wednesdays where we attend service/eat with the congregation.
How can we pray for you and your ministry?
The parish can pray for a filling of the Holy Spirit in us, our youths school and home lives, and for Christ to work in their heart. For me, the wisdom and discernment to lead well.
S.P.Y. meets on Wednesday evenings at 6pm.
